Luiz Felipe Maia to debate about sports betting in association of young lawyers

The debate 'Online gambling and its regulation: the Portuguese-speaking experience' will be held next Wednesday, December 16, promoted by JALP - International Association of Young Lawyers of Portuguese Language. The meeting will be attended by Gabino Oliveira (President of APAJO), Filipe Mayer (partner of CCA), Luiz Felipe Maia (Founding Partner of FYMSA) and Pedro Cortés (Partner of Rato, Ling, Lei & Cortés - Lawyers and Notaries). Carlos Eduardo Coelho (Vice-President of JALP's AG) will moderate the meeting.

Sports betting has increasingly aroused the interest of the international community and especially lawyers working in the field. To discuss the topic and present the experience of the sector's regulation in Portugal, the International Association of Young Portuguese-speaking Lawyers will bring together experts in yet another webinar of a cycle of online conferences that it is promoting during the month of December.

The webinar will not be restricted to sports betting in Portugal, since the topic is of interest to operators, regulators, and lawyers from different parts of the world. As JALP is an association that brings together young lawyers from all Portuguese-speaking countries, live will deal with online gambling not only in Portugal, but also in Macau, Angola, Mozambique and Brazil.

Luiz Felipe Maia, Founding Partner of FYMSA, one of the most renowned law firms focused on the gambling area, will take his colleagues to the current stage of the activity in Brazil. Maia will speak about the prospect of regulation next year, the market potential, the concession model chosen by the federal government and the possibility of also having operations in the states, based on the recent decision of the STF. Taxation is also part of the scope of your presentation.

JALP - International Association of Young Lawyers of Portuguese Language, is a non-profit association, whose main objective is to support, integrate and represent young lawyers from Portuguese-speaking countries and assume the role of aggregator and active voice concerns and interests of its members. JALP intends to have a relevant role in the framing of young lawyers in the Portuguese jurisdictional context and in the linguistic-cultural movement in which it operates.
