GMB - What services does the Global Lab offer?
Fabian Borghi - Global Lab is an independent testing laboratory, accredited by ISO 17020 and ISO 17025, dedicated to the certification and auditing of gaming systems and platforms in the betting, casinos, online games market, etc.
As a cybersecurity inspection lab, we offer professional services such as Penetration Testing, PCI ASV Vulnerability Scanning, PCI DSS and PCI PA DSS gap analysis, Security Design Review, Cybersecurity Maturity Assessment, etc.
The decision to set up a new laboratory came from an ambitious objective, "to change the relationship between the customer and us", providing a service that has the perfect combination of professionalism, transparency, availability and price. We must work with customers by following up and explaining to them that our job is to ensure their safety. Global Lab establishes a very close collaboration and that is what customers need.
What is your path in the area until you reach the position of Technical Project Manager at Global Lab?
I graduated as an Information Systems Engineer in 1985 and started my career in the betting market in 1995 as a programmer and network administrator.
In those years, I made major installations in important casinos, like the one in the city of Mar del Plata, where in 1997 I worked on the installation of 1200 slots in the main room, as well as the management system of the establishment. After that, many big projects followed in the gaming area. The implementation of the online system in Argentina, the migration of the manual to online system to Lotteries, Quinielas throughout Argentina.
More recently, I have been managing the start-up of casinos in the Caribbean and Central America market. I also worked for important IT companies like IBM in Brazil, Avaya from Argentina, Hewllet Packard, Etc. having the opportunity to work in the academic field as an instructor of methodologies such as ITIL, PMI, COBIT, Etc. at the Jorge Amado University in Salvador, BA.
In the year 2020, I was offered the opportunity to be part of the new Global Lab venture and I came up with the idea, I liked the new concept of customer relationship with Global Lab.
How has the company entered Brazil? How long have you been working here?
Global Lab is a company that operates in the European market and, in March 2020 following the plan of growth and expansion, the correct decision was to establish the business in Latin America, that's how it was decided to open a permanent representation in Brazil for be able to serve the Latin American market. We are already working for some customers in the region.
Did you conduct a survey on the regional industry? What is the profile of the Brazilian client of the entrepreneur related to the gaming sector in the country?
Certainly, we have been eyeing the Brazilian market for a long time! The current gaming entrepreneur in Brazil has the profile that we all know, the big question to answer is what will be the profile that entrepreneurs will have in the coming years and this will undoubtedly depend on the format of the different laws related to the sector.
Have you followed the process of legalizing gambling in Brazil? What expectations do you have regarding this process, which has been discussed in the Brazilian political environment for years?
Yes, very closely. As a professional in the field, it is a big dream that the Brazilian market accepts the clean rules of the market and see how positive it can be for Brazilian society that the money that today flees the country with foreign operators stays here for the benefit of all.
We have been eyeing Brazil for many years and this year 2020 we are seeing an increasingly strong light at the end of the tunnel. I think that this time politicians and government organizations are going in the same direction.
Because of these bills that circulate in the Chamber, has Global Lab felt a greater demand from the Brazilian public for its service? How many customers does the firm has in the country?
Not yet. Now we are entering the Brazilian market. We have already contacted several states to understand their needs and find the best way to collaborate with the sector's regulations. We have a team of specialists with over 30 years of experience in the market, ready to help you achieve this goal.
2020 was a year of renewal in several segments, including gaming. How did Global Lab receive these changes because of the pandemic? What is the company's balance for this year?
The pandemic showed how big the business can be and how in the near future online gambling, casinos and entertainment services can grow not only in Brazil but also globally.
For Global Lab it was an opportunity to modernize processes and focus them on remote and efficient service, since the communication response on the network is instantaneous, we must take advantage of this to qualify our service.
The overall balance was positive. Despite the limitations of the pandemic, we managed to penetrate the eastern European market of the former Soviet Union.
