Minister of Tourism Marcelo Álvaro Antônio

"MTur should arrive at a model of casino-resorts that generates jobs and income in Brazil"

Revista Hotéis, a specialized media in the tourism sector, exclusively interviewed the Minister of the portfolio, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and asked him for the introduction of casinos in lodging facilities in Brazil. “The integrated resorts business model is a reality throughout the world, and we are proposing a wide debate between the Brazilian Parliament, the inspection bodies and the population on the subject,” reaffirms the highest authority in the country's Tourism area.

Activities linked to the tourism sector resist the pandemic and the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) proves in research an increase for the fifth consecutive month of growth. And to further encourage the sector, the federal government recently launched the Tourism Resumption plan. The initiative brings together the public, private and third sectors in a set of programs, projects and actions that seek effective results by July 31 of next year.

And who is commanding these actions is the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, who explains about the introduction of casinos in the lodging facilities in Brazil in this exclusive interview of Revista Hotéis:

Revista Hotéis - As the Ministry of Tourism, do you analyze the introduction of casinos in lodging facilities in Brazil, since 93% of the countries linked to the OECD already have this business model? This matter has already been discussed by Congress for many years and is still on paper and many experts say there is a lack of political will to resolve it. What can the industry expect?
Marcelo Álvaro Antônio - Obviously, the introduction of integrated resorts is a topic that needs to be discussed at this time in Brazil, with all the necessary responsibility. This business model is a reality throughout the world, and we are proposing a wide debate between the Brazilian Parliament, the supervisory bodies, and the population on the subject.

MTur has been studying the theme in order to support the best proposal for Brazil. We want to arrive at a model that serves the country, generating employment and income, and that allows free competition between possible investors in projects of this nature. The MTur believes that this great debate will allow progress in a democratic and transparent way.
