Peru approves opening of casinos as part of the economic reactivation plan

After months of complaints from the sector due to the prolonged period in which gambling halls were not able to operate in the country due to the pandemic, the Government of Peru approved in a session of the Council of Ministers the opening of casinos, as part of Phase 4 of economic reactivation within the framework of measures to combat the coronavirus in the country.

“We have approved Phase 4 of the economic reactivation in the Council of Ministers. Some businesses will be gradually expanded, companies that had expected a good time to go back to work like casinos and theaters,” said the Chief of Staff, Violeta Bermúdez.

The head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers pointed out that Phase 4 of the economic reactivation also includes other businesses that were paralyzed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have even expanded the capacity for restaurants, always having a balance with health protection," said Bermúdez, who recently received the vote of confidence from the Plenary of Congress.

Through a supreme decree, a few days ago the capacity of restaurants had been allowed to increase to 50% in phase 4, and stores in general to reach a capacity of 60%.
