“In the last year we increased by 173% the destruction of confiscated game elements from 2,630 in 2018 to 7,170 in 2019, which shows the enormous commitment of this Government in terms of legality and greater competitiveness of games of luck and chance in Colombia,” said Pérez Hidalgo.
The regulator added that the board had granted licences to 17 online operators since 2016 and continues to block unlicensed operators. At the end of 2019 Coljuegos had ordered the blocking of 3,365 online gaming sites. Pacts with local governments had also helped cut illegal gamblin..
Local lawmakers and members of the board continue to sign pacts for the “Legality of the Gambling Sector” a strategy with which Coljuegos aims to combat illegal gaming. The pacts also aim to promote the “Playing Legal is Betting on Health” public awareness campaign.
“As a sector, we have received recognition in the area of prevention from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Financial Superintendence of Colombia, the Financial Information Analysis Unit (UIAF) and the US Department of State, which makes us continue to improve every day,” he said.
