Maia is in favor of the model adopted by the more important European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester City are controlled by foreign groups. The deputy said that the intention is to make clubs stronger financially in order to keep players in the country. Last July, he discussed the topic with the Presidentof the CBF Rogério Caboclo.

“We understand that Brazilian football needs more capital, foreign capital as well. In my opinion, there will be no private capital without a professional football structure,” said Maia, who twice defended the entry of foreign investors in the Brazilian football.

The president of the chamber said that he has already discussed the matter with the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes. Maia said that he is concerned about the financial situation of the Brazilian teams. He classified the current form of administration of the majority as “primary, primitive and backward.”

“An associative club is not going to attract foreign capital. Apart from Flamengo, Corinthians and Palmeiras, the other clubs are heading towards an unfeasible situation. The current model does not generate good football clubs,” said the president of the Chamber of Deputies, who is a fan of Botafogo.
