The casinos return? “Families destruction and gambling addiction” old rhetoric makes no sense

Economy Minister Paulo Guedes gave support to the return of casinos in Brazil, a theme that divides opinions between those who are against the initiative and the ones that consider the activity could help to recover the country's economy. The journalist Marcelo Rates Quaranta, of Jornal da Cidade Online, published a column stating that, with so much gaming offer in Brazil, the old saying that the activity 'destroys the family' no longer makes sense.

Minister Paulo Guedes signaled his support for the approval of the Law that may reopen casinos in Brazil.

Prohibited in the country since May 30, 1946, by a Decree of the then President Eurico Gaspar Dutra, gambling can return to legality with the project to legalize casinos.

Although the proposal faces resistance from the evangelical group and also from the Catholic Church, in my view it is viable, as it can bring revenue to the government of approximately R$ 15 billion a year, in addition to generating thousands of jobs and attracting investors.

Among those who have already submitted an investment proposal is the Ceasar group, which promises an INITIAL investment of R$ 2 billion for the construction of casino resorts.

The return of the casinos generates a multitude of direct jobs, such as waiters, cooks, maids, musicians, croupiers, guides, etc., as well as indirect, since other activities would also benefit, such as those of the transport, food, tourism and etc. . In short, thousands of jobs;

The old rhetoric used by purist groups about “the destruction of families and the addiction to gambling” is no longer true. We have jogo do bicho, official lotteries, horse races etc. In short, play the one who wants.

Card games are also everywhere, and what benefits do they bring to Brazil?

With the money collected by the government from the casinos, it relieves the cash flow for investments in health, education, roads, infrastructure, and even for the payroll, as the municipal governments will also receive part of this money.

Furthermore, those who have money to play in casinos, usually go outside Brazil, leaving the money and generating jobs abroad. Or on the ships that, as soon as they leave our territorial sea, open their roulettes.
