According to Civil House secretary, Douglas Borba

Santa Catarina government is willing to regulate gambling in casinos and bingos

The secretary of the Civil House of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, Douglas Borba, said at a Hard Rock event in São José that the local government is willing to regulate gambling in casinos and bingos. To this end, he asked for support from Senators Jorginho Mello (PL) and Dario Berger (MDB), both present at the event, so that the federal government can delegate competence to the states.

Currently, only the Union can legislate on gambling. Upon receiving the competence, Santa Catarina would have the regulation made by the local government. “We will be the pioneers," said Borba.

The secretary's speech goes directly to the interest of Hard Rock businessmen in São José. For the partnership project with the Petry family, which was made official at last Friday's event, the future stages foresee a hotel and a casino. The gambling house, however, depends on the release of gambling in Brazil.

There is a bill pending in the National Congress ready to go to the vote in the Chamber of Deputies. Despite this, there is still great pressure against the activity mainly from religious groups and health specialists.
