Alencar da Silveira Jr., Minas Gerais State Representative

“We support gaming legalization so that Brazil’ states can make investments aimed at the social”

Minas Gerais State Deputy, Alencar da Silveira Jr., participated this Tuesday (4th) in ribbon cutting ceremony during ICE London opening, the largest gaming trade show in the world. In a conversation with GMB, the parliamentarian highlighted the importance of legalizing the gamblin market to fight corruption and for investments in the social sector. In addition, he remarked the strength of state lotteries as federal government partners to reach a healthy federation.

Alencar da Silveira Jr. assured that he supports the legalization of the gambling market and sees the industry as a way to reduce corruption and make more people benefit from the activity through new investments in needy areas in the country.

“I defend the legalization of the activity; I understand that it is past time for it to be legalized. Illegal gambling serves a few and still makes room for corruption. So, I see that with legalization we will generate money to invest in the social sector and also end the corruption that exists in Brazil and in all countries that happen to not have the a legal gaming sector,” he said.

The deputy argued that President Jair Bolsonaro needs to realize that the states with their lotteries are partners and that they are fundamental to a healthy federation.

“The president today has to look with good eyes and remember that the legislative assemblies, the states, are partners. State lotteries are partners of the federal government. We need to have strong states to achieve a healthy federation. So, nothing better than the lottery to continue with the condition that has the games explored by Caixa Econômica. But the states with the legality of the games can apply in the social sector in each region. I understand that it's past time and the president has to see that.”

According to Alencar, the state of Minas Gerais will work in partnership with UNALE - National Union of Legislators and State Legislatures - to show the president the strength of the states and to achieve a greater share of investments for each of them.

“In Minas Gerais, we are fighting nationally, through an entity called UNALE for which we are going to take this discussion to strengthen lotteries and to legalize in order to obtain a higher income. There is no point in spending all of your money in Brasilia,” concluded Alencar da Silveira Jr.

ICE London 2020 started this Tuesday (4th) with the participation of many Brazilians in the cutting ribbon ceremony, such as the president of the Chamber of Deputies Tourism Commission, Newton Cardoso Jr., and the Minas Gerais parliamentarian himself, Alencar de Almeida Jr.

The fair will also have the presence of many Brazilians during the lectures and debates aimed at the local market, such as at the Seminar “Brazil, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean” and at the Brazilian Round Table within the World Regulatory Briefing of ICE VOX.
