National Lottery AD, which operates the site 7777.bg, said in a message on its website that it stopped accepting bets, “in connection with impoundments by the National Revenue Agency on the bank accounts of National Lottery AD".
Player accounts on 7777.bg will remain open only for withdrawals.
Kambi, which said that National lottery AD "volunatily handed back its licence", notified the Bulgarian operator about the suspension of its contract, which started in 2017, last Thursday (12 March) and restricted the ability to place bets with immediate effect.
Kambi said that, if the suspension continues, “ the impact on Kambi’s 2020 revenues is expected to be a small negative.”
The crackdown on privately-run lotteries caused a real media storm in Bulgaria that keeps raging on for nearly three months now. The frenzy is being fueled by the fact that National Lottery AD’s boss, Bulgarian businessman Vasil Bozhkov, is now facing multiple charges.
The clampdown on his business was prompted by claims that the business mogul and his lottery operation had for years failed to pay proper taxes for conducting its activities in Bulgaria.
