PokerStars postpones BSOP São Paulo and EPT Monte Carlo due to coronavirus

The new coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread at an alarming rate and, after being classified by the World Health Organization as a pandemic, major national and international events are increasingly being canceled and postponed. In view of the current scenario, PokerStars decided to proceed with the postponement of two other major tournaments: BSOP São Paulo and European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo.

BSOP São Paulo was scheduled to take place between March 19th and 24th at the WTC Sheraton.

Official PokerStars complete statement:

"Working with our partners and casino partners in operating the events and following guidelines from the World Health Organization and local authorities, we took more decisions about some of our upcoming live events.

Due to the continued spread of Coronavirus (COVID 19), two upcoming events will be postponed

Players who have qualified online at PokerStars for the above events will be contacted within the next 24 hours for assistance. Any player who has won a package with us through an online qualifier will receive the cash value of the tournament buy-in in their PokerStars account.
We are currently reviewing our European Poker Tour Sochi and will update in the coming days.

When analyzing our abundant schedule of live events, we make decisions on a case-by-case basis, together with the most up-to-date news and guidelines. We are sad that we have decided to postpone some of our events and we understand that some may be disappointed, but our priority is to ensure the safety of our players.

Any player who feels uncomfortable about participating in other upcoming events can contact us at [email protected].

In view of the recent declaration of a state of global pandemic by the World Health Organization in relation to COVID-19 (coronavirus), the uncertainties of the real impact of this world situation in relation to Brazil and the cancellation of several major national and international events, at this moment, we thought it best and preventively to suspend the São Paulo stage, which would take place between March 19 and 24, 2020.

This decision is taken with great regret and has no other motivation than precaution and preventive zeal in relation to our customers, employees and business partners.
In view of this suspension and, taking into account the responsible, respectful and transparent way in which BSOP has always dealt with its customers, we will adopt measures, which we believe is up to our history, dimension and credibility:

Duly proven and paid travel expenses will be reimbursed, as if they had been acquired by the time of publication of this press release (03/13/2020, 6 pm). All requests for reimbursement should be directed to [email protected], and they will receive further instructions on how to proceed.

BSOP is the Brazilian Poker Championship and has a history and tradition of 15 years of zeal for its customers. This refund process that we will do is yet another concrete demonstration that when faced with atypical and unpredictable situations, BSOP will always act with responsibility, integrity and respect for players; always passing the greatest security to our customers and having as priority the preservation of the image of a brand that has conquered its space in the market through correct attitudes, concrete actions and a relationship built over decades.
