Lotteries in the world
It is not only in Brazil that bets are popular, lotteries worldwide are successful and attract players who dream on changing their lives. But in the last few months a lot has changed. The coronavirus outbreak began in China, as was widely reported in the press, and several restrictive measures were taken to reduce the spread of the disease among the population. One of them was related to lotteries.
The oriental country suspended the lottery draw for 49 days, that's right, for more than a month! The most populous place on the planet faced drastic decisions to save its citizens and avoiding crowds and queues at bookmakers was one of them. This was the first time in 33 years of lottery in China that there was such a situation.
The shutdown started on January 22 and no lottery was withdrawn in this period. Only on March 11 did the bets begin again, but still gradually. All because the country is experiencing today a decline in the contagion of the coronavirus and, every day, the number of contaminated people decreases.
Italy, which currently concentrates the largest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19, had a different attitude. The largest lottery in the country, called Superenalotto, continues with its contests normally. There have been no restrictions on Italian lotteries yet.
The same happens with the EuroMillions draw, the largest lottery in Europe. The extractions proceed as normal and there is no expectation of change in this regard.
Still on the European continent, Spain is already alert with the increase of people with the coronavirus and is taking a preventive and containment attitude in different areas. Thus, on March 13, the Spanish government decreed the suspension of about 15 lotteries.
For an indefinite period, the Spaniards will not be able to bet on their well-known lotteries, such as El Gordo, Quinigol, Bonoloto, Quiniela and Primitiva. Ireland is yet another country that halted the draw of The National Lottery, the biggest one there.
The United States, on the other hand, continues to normally draw their lotteries, including the famous PowerBall and Mega Millions. It is worth mentioning that several sports competitions have already been suspended and with no expected return.
As can be seen, the lottery draw scenario in the world is quite diverse and changes in each country. Some governments have taken stronger measures and paralyzed the draws, others continue with the normal schedule. However, clearly, the situation can be changed at any time, since the coronavirus is highly contagious and its containment is everyone's goal.
Lotteries in Brazil
As is known, since Monday (16), the voluntary quarantine process and the closure of institutions in the country began. Several states decreed the closure of shopping malls, there was a decrease in national flights, schools started to shut their door and the recommendation is clear: stay at home.
With this, the question arises: will the lottery draw in Brazil also be paralyzed? So far, Caixa Econômica Federal has not made any official pronouncement on this issue and the contests this Wednesday, including the accumulated Mega-Sena, take place normally.
The Loteca may be the lottery that should soon be affected, after all, several state championships have been suspended indefinitely. However, the other lotteries, which have a tens selection game dynamic, continue with the normal schedule.
Of course, this could change at any time, after all, it is estimated that the coronavirus outbreak in Brazil will increase significantly in the coming weeks and will peak in April. The forecast is that the quarantine will continue in this period and that new preventive measures will be taken.
Therefore, it is possible for lotteries in Brazil to be suspended. But, again, everything depends on the plans adopted by the Federal Government and also on Caixa's position on the matter.
