Senators request report into Paraguay’s gambling sector

Senators belonging to the Hagamos Party have put forward a draft resolution to request reports from the National Gambling Commission (CONAJZAR), in relation to the licenses granted for the operation of casinos and gambling houses. The main goal of the application is to obtain reports from the gaming board regarding the operability of casinos and gaming houses.

Senators Gilberto Apuril and Patrick Kemper have presented a draft resolution to the Permanent Commission of Congress, currently chaired by Senator Arnaldo Franco.

The main objective of the application is to obtain reports from the gaming board regarding the operability of casinos and gaming houses.

According to the document, the resolution seeks to “find out about aspects and details of the existing situation around the management and licenses granted by the institution” for this type of betting premises.

It is expected that the draft resolution can be dealt with in the Permanent Commission of Congress soon.

Paraguay could well prove to be an area of significant growth in the near future long term when it comes to casinos. The Ministry of Tourism (SENATUR) is looking at Integrated Resorts as they would increase tourism in the area and improve local infrastructure. Casinos have been permitted in Paraguay since 1997 but the casino industry is still extremely underdeveloped and has been slow to get off the ground. In addition a number of tenders have had to be cancelled due to irregularities and a lack of transparency over the years.
