We will beat the coronavirus all together

Games Magazine Brasil launches the campaign #OJogoApostaNaVida

Our gambling industry, so often unfairly criticized, is physically isolated but more united than ever to help governments and society fight the coronavirus. With a high level of social responsibility, more than 40 companies joined the campaign launched with two videos by Games Magazine Brazil with messages to raise awareness. #OjogoApostaNaVida (Gaming Bets on Life) is not just a hashtag or a video. It is a message, a promise, an obligation.

We have called companies that support us with their sponsorship and companies that do not. From powerful companies worldwide to young Brazilian startups that have just entered the gaming market, joined our campaign. Because we are all affected. And this is not the time to divide or split. We must live physically isolated but more united than ever from our efforts to win this fight and be reborn.

With #OJogoApostaNaVida, we seek the participation of the media that are usually our competition, such as BNL, iGaming Brazil and Joga Brasil. Almost all of them joined immediately, with total predisposition and eager to send their message. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts. We and they understand that it is a time to unite before an invisible enemy in an unequal fight.

The theory of the “black swan” developed by the Lebanese philosopher and researcher Nassim Taleb describes a surprising event, of great socio-economic impact. An unexpected problem that takes on a disproportionate role, difficult to predict, whose strange events are outside the scope of the normal expectations of history, science, finance and technology. Examples of "black swans" are the start of the First World War, the Spanish flu, the September 11, 2001 attacks, and now ... the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The industry is going through a severe crisis with unexpected economic losses and unrecoverable jobs. But before that, it is humanity itself that is in check. This “black swan” that is the coronavirus does not distinguish social classes, races, creeds, religions, markets, professions, ages or nationalities. It crosses oceans and borders without being seen.

Our industry, many times attacked and criticized from ignorance or with vested interests, today became more aware than ever of its social responsibility and thus we proudly hear of solidarity casinos that make their facilities available to governments to transform into hospitals. Gambling sites that in their networks call to quarantine or slot, sportsbooks, software or cards companies that explain what measures must be taken to protect from the coronavirus and not spread or catch it.

We welcome the immediate reaction our market showed to take internal action. From remote work and online meetings to awareness campaigns, provision of hygiene items, etc. so that employees go through this moment with the greatest possible protection, complying with the suggestions of the ministries of Health of each country and the WHO itself.

This is the humble contribution of Games Magazine Brasil to make visible the effort of so many people in the field to subsist in all parts of the world. In these videos, there are many words that come from Brazil, but also from the United States, Argentina, Panama, the United Kingdom, Chile and Portugal. We cannot mention everyone now, but we do want to focus on a specific one. From Italy, in the middle of an absolute “war zone”, our friend Ludovico Calvi (Director of GLMS) sent us his message full of pain and, at the same time, of hope.

To all those who took the time to join #OJogoApostaNaVida with their message ... thank you.
