Brazilian Senator proposes special Mega-Sena for more resources to combat Covid-19

Senator Weverton (PDT-MA) presented three proposals to fight the coronavirus, among them the possibility of a special Mega Sena contest with 47% of the funds raised destined to the Unified Health System (SUS). Bets would be placed on the internet to avoid crowds in the lottery stores. 'It would be a way to allocate more resources to SUS, which needs a bigger structure to fight the virus,' explained Weverton.

“Brazilian public health has faced so many problems. It would be a way to allocate more resources to SUS, which needs a bigger structure to fight the virus. As bets can be placed online, no one needs to leave the house to play,” explained the senator about the proposal for the special contest in order to race funds to fight the coronavirus.

In addition to the lottery, the senator also suggests freezing prices for items such as surgical masks and gel alcohol, and tax exemption of these materials while the pandemic and public calamity lasts.

"It's an absurd. It is necessary for the Federal Government, and we signed this project as well, so that in cases of calamity such as Coronavirus, the prices of the materials that are necessary to face this confrontation are immediately frozen,” he said.

Weverton signed an application requesting clarification from the Ministry of Health about mass testing and the number of test kits purchased by the Brazilian government.

For him, this is the time for Parliament to present proposals that directly benefit the population and that are effective in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“I presented these projects to make my contribution in this difficult time that Brazil is going through. We are all going to make a difference,” he concluded.
