Absurd statements of Brazil’s President

"There is no risk of COVID-19 in lottery stores because glass is armored", says Jair Bolsonaro

In a live on Facebook, President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday criticized decrees of governors that determined the closure of lottery stores in their states as a way of preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that there is no risk of transmission of the coronavirus inside lottery shops because the glass that separates employees from the public is 'armored'. The incredible statement by the president generated a lot of criticism and scams on social networks for being absurd.

The controversial statement comes a day after Bolsonaro published a decree requiring all lottery houses, included in the list of essential services for the population, to reopen in the country and interrupting the social isolation imposed by some governors. According to Bolsonaro, Brazil has 12,956 lottery houses and, with the determination of state and municipal governments, 2,500 units were closed.

“Believe me, 2,463 lottery stores, 2,500 lottery houses, were closed. By decrees of some governors or mayors. I am not criticizing governor or mayor. Now, for God's sake, close the lottery store? In fact, the guy who works in the lottery has an armored glass. That is, the virus will not pass there. The glass is armored, it will not pass, he works on the other side of the glass,” he said.

Without a protective mask, Bolsonaro was beside the president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, and the interpreter Elisângela Castelo Branco.

Immediately after Bolsonaro words, social networks were flooded with messages against the President with memes, mockery and strong criticism due to the absurd and ignorant content of the message in times when isolation is encouraged to prevent the contagion of the COVID-19.

In the same live broadcast, the president also revealed that ministers criticized the coronavirus announcement issued on Tuesday and made a comparison between the disease and the rain. “We want there to be no deaths in Brazil, but this virus is like rain. It gets cloudy, comes thunderstorm and we will get wet,” he said.
