“At EGR, positive and negative views on the path of Brazil’s gaming regulation alternated”

In this exclusive opinion column for Game Magazine Brasil, the expert lawyer and Founding Partner of Online IPS, Witoldo Hendrich Jr. describes his time at recent EGR Power Latam in Buenos Aires, one of his favorite events. “We are obviously dealing with the best news on the continent, the Buenos Aires regulations. We speak about Brazil, of course, alternating positive and negative views on the paths of the Brazilian authorities,” says Witoldo.

After taking a few days off after EGR Power Latam 2020, which took place in Buenos Aires on Feb 26th and 27th, it is time for an overview of the event.

But, first, I’d like to leave some considerations about this fair. I feel like a dinosaur of EGR together with Luciana Hendrich, because were the only Brazilian professionals in some of the previous editions. EGR was always a small show in terms of number of attendees, there by invitation only. It is not an open event to the general public, not even for the press, what made of EGR the most sincere seminar of the year.

We always felt free to speak without fearing that something could be inadvertently published.

It is, no doubt, my favorite event, as we used to be 30 to 50 decision makers meeting at the same place. Some of our good contracts were negotiated there.

Being a small event quantitatively but qualitatively giant, it is a natural effect to having this fair grown up, what happened this year with more than a hundred attendees. The quality, let me stress this, remained the same. Naturally, the Brazilian team showed its power, with the presence of great names there.

About the event, I want to highlight that despite the lame conduction by the Brazilian authorities of the legislation process, with lots of back and forth’s, the desire of making business in Brazil remains.

But I have to make a reservation regarding to this!

The interest remains lofty because of new players decided to understand the country and this huge potential we have here. On the other hand, we lost power with some giants of the industry, which decided to wait until Brazil shows its true north.

It is proven by their unused badges over the registration desk.

I really hope that the Brazilian Government will start to pay attention to the market. We have good professionals here able to put this regulation in good rails. There is no reason to do it inefficiently.

Allow me to repeat something I’ve been saying for some time: The good thing about being the last one is the chance to learn with other people’s mistakes. Learn with other’s mistakes, by-the-way, is one of the human qualities that brought us here.

EGR was also stage to debate the new regulation of Buenos Aires, the great surprise of the past months.

Of course, we talked about Peru and Colombia, places where Online IPS is ready to operate, let me say this :)

Big hug and a great March to all of us!
