Project allocates part of lottery collection to fund that helps Brazilians with repatriation

Deputy Alexandre Frota (PSDB-SP) has focused the first weeks of the year on creating projects that allocate part of the lottery revenue to areas commanded by the government, such as health, safety and education. Now, he has presented a bill to create the National Fund to Support the Repatriation of Brazilians Abroad (FUNRBE) giving it 0.5% of the prizes drawn from Mega-Sena.

On Tuesday (3), deputy Alexandre Frota (PSDB-SP) presented a bill that aims to create the National Fund to Support the Repatriation of Brazilians Abroad (FUNRBE) with the contribution from the transfers of the Caixa Lotteries, in the percentage of 0.5% of the prizes drawn by Mega-Sena. He points out that "there is currently no legal obligation for the Brazilian government to repatriate under-served or underprivileged nationals."

"FUNRBE will be extremely relevant in financial support involving Brazilian citizens abroad, such as repatriations, arrests, hospitalizations, deaths, disappearances, inadmissions, among other forms of support," he explains.

According to his justification for the creation of the fund, "in addition to being very laborious, the process of transferring bodies or living people in situations of risk, in cases that are proven to be urgent and humanitarian, the implementation takes time and is expensive.”

The objective is to ensure resources, on the part of the Brazilian government, for the repatriation of Brazilians dead abroad and at risk, in demonstrably urgent and humanitarian cases, upon proof through required documentation.

FUNRBE is of an accounting and financial nature. The aim is for it to be a public fund, with autonomous budgetary, financial and accounting management, linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the terms of its own regulation.
