According to Caixa Econômica Federal, Mega-Sena raised R$ 276,356,628 (US$ 54m) in bets in the last month. In March 2019, the collection was R$ 352,043,562 (US$ 68.9m).
In the isolation period, Mega-Sena also registered the lowest prize of the year -R$ 1 million (US$ 195k)-, in the 2,246 contest, drawn last March 25th.
In addition to Mega-Sena, sweepstakes such as Lotofácil and Quina have been carried out normally. Only the Federal Lottery and the Loteca were suspended, after restrictions to face the pandemic. Another change was in the date of the draw for the Easter Duo that went from April 11th to the 25th.
In many cities, lotteries have closed. In others, such as São Paulo, they are considered an essential service and can work during quarantine. The bettor has the option to play the games online through Caixa's lottery website.
Accumulated Prize
Caixa states that it is important to consider the fact that Mega-Sena submitted two accumulated draws in March 2019, a situation that did not occur in the same period this year.
"It is important to highlight that the increase in the collection is directly related to the big prizes offered. Thus, as the contests accumulate, that is, when there is no winner in the main draw, the prize amount is automatically added to the next draw. And this causes the main prize to grow gradually, as it is these high prizes that attract more and more bettors," explains Caixa, in a note.
