Amid COVID-19 crisis

Brazilian Jockey Club establishes return of the activity for next May 3

The board of directors of the Brazilian Jockey Club announced the return of horse racing to Rio de Janeiro’s Gávea Racecourse next May 3. The decision was taken due to the financial crisis that makes it impossible to fulfill its obligations. Precautions will be taken against the spread of the COVID-19, such as the prohibition of people attending the races and the payment of prizes to participants will be reduced by 40% from the current value.

- Considering that state and municipal decrees in Rio de Janeiro established temporary and restrictive measures for public health emergencies and prevention of contagion resulting from the new CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19).

- Considering that the tourist activity in Rio de Janeiro, which generates more than 1,000 direct jobs and a greater number of indirect ones, is paralyzed as a result of such measures, with all the consequences that result, needing to restart its activities in order to minimize the existing collapse, with no prospect of its end.

- Considering that the Brazilian Jockey Club, like the rest of Brazil and the world, faces a period of severe economic and financial crisis, with ALL revenues compromised, implying the impossibility of complying with contractual, labor, tax and social security obligations.

THE DIRECTORY OF THE BRAZILIAN JOCKEY CLUB DECIDES:

1) Revoke the suspension of turf activities at Gávea Racecourse as of May 3, 2020, without prejudice to the constant concern with prevention and prudence in relation to the threat of contagion, aiming to guarantee the health and well-being of ALL involved in the turf chain.

2) The entry of Partners, Owners, Breeders, and relatives of professionals in the turf activities, Riding Agents and anyone outside the activity in the areas of the Gávea Racecourse is prohibited.

3) Only the presence in the areas of the races will be allowed, that is, the Professionals' Tribune, Racing Veterinarian and Paddock: Jockeys and Apprentices with riding commitment, Trainers, Grooms and Autonomous Veterinarians with horses registered under their responsibilities, being mandatory the use of protective masks.

4) Any movement of people through other areas of the Gávea Racecourse and any type of agglomeration is also prohibited, respecting the rules of distance and caution.

5) During the crisis period, due to the lack of revenue and the responsibility of the JCB Board of Directors with the commitments assumed, the prizes to be paid to owners, breeders, coaches, jockeys, apprentices, and second managers will suffer a decrease of 40 % of current value.

6) The distance table for the month of May, as well as the inscription project will be announced until next Monday, April 20, 2020.

7) In the face of the serious crisis that affects everyone indiscriminately, with no prospect of ending, the classic programming will be reassessed and published until April 30, 2020.

8) In the event that the Coronavirus problem is resolved, a new Board Resolution will be prepared and published for the appropriate purposes.
