With the world in quarantine, online poker lives new boom with average of 45,000 users

This week, journalist Nick Jones - through the website Highstakesdb - shared a chart proving what online poker regulars have been seeing for at least two weeks: the quarantine caused by the new coronavirus pandemic generated a new boom in the activity. The confinement that almost everyone is going through is marking a new peak that is about to reach, on average, 45,000 users at cash tables, numbers that have not been seen since 2006.

With crowded tournaments, the rooms have been surpassing guaranteed in almost all events and generating millionaire prizes. The ups and downs of the graph are seasonal changes, through which it can be concluded that online poker is played more in winter than in summer, but this year, clearly the isolation caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 is having a great impact.

The confinement that almost everyone is going through is marking a new peak that is about to reach, on average, 45,000 users at cash tables, numbers that have not been seen since 2006 and that are certainly higher because users in MTT's are not being considered.

Within this scenario and just as an example, entertainment and online gaming website Bodog saw a 30% increase in the site's poker pages in Latin America.

The players' stay time remained the same, however more people started to access the pages. On a peak day, for example, Bodog secured more than R$ 1.3 million (US$ 248,000) in prizes, a very significant number for the category.

In addition, to bring more entertainment to sports fans who are in need due to the stop of sports championships, Bodog has launched a series of campaigns called #EuFicoEmCasa (Y stay at home).

The actions are part of the adhesion and support of the brand for what it is called #socialdistancing, a preventive measure recommended to reduce the contagion of the COVID-19 epidemic, and brings special promotions for most popular casino games, as well as daily poker tournaments.
Also in the #EuFicoEmCasa campaign, Bodog created a series of free poker tournaments in April. There will be more than 100 events and US$ 15,000 guaranteed in prize money for participants.
