Coljuegos, which introduced online gaming in 2017, derived its proposals from research that were carried out on similar projects in the United States, the United Kingdom. Now, this new option would also have to fulfil all current regulatory requirements.
The good news is that gamblers will now have a more immersive gaming experience involving live dealers and the nation will have access to additional financial capital, as well as additional opportunities for jobs.
Foreign operations will also be permitted, as long as they follow the regulatory and technical requirements for online gaming in the country.
Coljuegos should make it easier for operators of both live and virtual casinos to help get projects off the ground, and to mitigate the financial strain created by COVID-19. For a six-month period, land-based operators will be able to pay their March and April fees and will have to temporarily cut the number of gaming devices they sell for the same duration.
For March, April and May, virtual casinos will still have to make monthly payments, but these have been will by 50%. As an additional aid measure, contractually agreed minimum benefit rates or fixed gross income payments are suspended by the end of the year.
