Record of simultaneous accesses due to COVID-19

Caixa’s online lottery website still down due to collapse of its digital channels

The Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) website for lottery games continues to have access problems. The page is not “loading normally”, making bets impossible. The institution said that the isolation period, caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus, caused simultaneous accesses that break records in all bank's digital channels, surpassing the number of 500 thousand. The systems even recorded 36,000 transactions per minute.

Users have had difficulty accessing since at least Tuesday of last week: therefore, they are unable to check the games made or place new bets. According to the state bank, the number of simultaneous accesses would have limited access, but an improvement in the solution is being implemented to solve the problem.

Online Lotteries allow users to place bets on games such as Mega-Sena, Quina, Lotofácil and Lotomania without having to go to a physical establishment. Lotteries are open because they are considered essential services in a decree signed by President Jair Bolsonaro.

However, the bank has been experiencing instability every day since at least April 6, just before the registration app was released to receive an economic benefit given by the State during the coronavirus pandemic.

The reported problem with the gaming site, according to the institution, was due to an increased concentration of these accesses. Caixa would be working “continuously to further increase the capacity for simultaneous access to its services.”

As alternatives to the lottery site, however, Caixa makes Internet Banking available to customers and the Lottery app, which are also betting channels. Account holders who used the app this afternoon reported not finding any difficulty in access, such as the one identified on the website.

In its official Twitter account, Caixa says: "the CAIXA TEM application may flash momentarily due to the high volume of accesses. We ask that you try again later. We are working tirelessly to stabilize the system."
