Sérgio Sette Câmara, president of Atlético-MG

"The value of the contract increases with the bets and is distributed between the clubs"

The president of Atlético-MG, Sérgio Sette Câmara, confirmed that the clubs will start to profit from bets placed on websites abroad on games of the Brazilian championship. One of the clauses of the contract signed for the sale of international rights for broadcasting games until December 2023 establishes that the clubs will bill according to the volume of bets made in matches of the local tournament. Firms Stats Perform and Zeus Sports Marketing were chosen by CBF and the clubs.

The agreement made between clubs and the company is not detailed due to the minutes that demand confidentiality of the parties. The teams will receive a total of about R$ 209 million (US$ 40m) for an agreement that lasts four seasons. In a Q&A made by UOL Esporte during the ‘Papo de Setoristas’ show, the president of Atlético-MG, Sérgio Sette Câmara, spoke about the case.

"We were represented by [André] Sica, a Palmeiras lawyer, [Roberto] Trinas, for marketing [of Palmeiras]. An analysis was made of what companies could do. This was divided between broadcasting rights and betting streaming, which is the betting side. At first, one company will do the broadcasting part for abroad and another firm will do the betting part,” explained Sette Câmara.

“This is a contract that tends to become interesting as bets start to happen. This value is increasing according to the bets and is distributed among the clubs," said Atlético-MG’s president, who is one of the representatives of the National Club Commission (CNC).

PAYMENT

Sette Câmara also explains the distribution of payment quotas to clubs. The apportionment will be defined as follows: the associations of Series A will have about R$ 157 million (75%) -US$29.5m-, those of Series B will pocket another R$ 42 million (20%) -US$7.9m-, and the teams of Series C will take the remaining R$ 10.5 million (5%) -US$1.95m-. The manager reveals that the amounts will be paid in installments to the teams. The amount must be diluted over four years.

"The value issue is not significant, it is small. When you have a value that is dedicated, such a club will receive a certain amount. You can anticipate the value, bringing the present value, but you have all the normal issues of discount. In four years, five thousand a year, it is twenty thousand. So, you are going to have twelve to take it all now. The amount you receive in relation to the deadline is lower," he explained.
