Pedro Guimarães, Caixa’s president

“Lottery stores are now essential for the most vulnerable population in Brazil”

The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, said during a press conference that lottery shops will be essential so that the most economically vulnerable population has access to help from the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'Agencies will be key for people to withdraw the R$ 600 aid, and the bank will make millions of payments with money being paid right into the account,' said Guimarães.

Pedro Guimarães said that the lottery stores are present in small towns and regions where there are no banks and that Caixa Econômica has more than 13 thousand lottery shops that open even on weekends and are in more economically sensitive areas.

“Lotteries will be essential, as they were in the immediate withdrawal, to remind people in the immediate withdrawal when we pay up to R$ 100.00, it was exclusively by the lottery companies. So, this public will often be paid, very predominantly by the lotteries, when it is not through the application,” said the bank's president.

Guimarães also expressed that the lottery companies will be “fundamental” in the release of the R$ 600 aid and that the bank expects to make “millions of payments, with money being paid right into the account.”

He also said that the possibility of opening a savings account digitally will speed up the process, since these accounts are opened with as little information as possible.

The Minister of Citizenship, Onyx Lorenzoni, said that Brazil’s government is working so that contacts to access the benefit made via cell phones, even on prepaid ones, are "absolutely free".
