Collection of Chilean casinos fell 52% in March

The effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to strongly affect the international gaming industry. In the case of Chile, the forced closure of establishments that gather large numbers of people generated that, in the country's casino sector, there was a drop in collection of 52.2% in March after having operated only 18 days during the month.

According to the information published this week by the country’ Superintendency of Gambling Casinos (SCJ), the 19 casinos authorized by Law No. 19,995 and the 7 municipal casinos recorded gross gaming revenues of US$ 24 million during March. In February, the figure was US$ 49 million, which represents a drop of 1.5% compared to the same period last year.

In this way, the accumulated real growth is negative (-7.6%) during the last 12 months, while worse results are expected for 2020 since the casinos did not work in April or during the time of May.

Also, it must be considered that there is still no date defined by the authorities for the reopening of the gaming venues.
