Bolsonaro discusses football return with Flamengo and Vasco presidents

In a new step for the return of football in Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro received the representatives Rodolfo Landim, from Flamengo, and Alexandre Campello, from Vasco. On the agenda of the meeting, Bolsonaro discusses with them, the main enthusiasts of the return of football in Rio de Janeiro, the measures to ensure that the ball rolls again as soon as possible, even though the coronavirus still haunts the country.

The red-black delegation also counted on the doctor Márcio Tannure and on Aleksander Santos, director of the club that makes the bridge with the government entities. Before the debate with the president, the pair met with senator Flávio Bolsonaro at a lunch. Conversation rounds will extend into the afternoon. Bolsonaro has already stated that he wants the matches to return, but he comes up against the annoyance of Mayor Marcelo Crivella and Governor Wilson Witzel.

Faced with the difficulties in Rio, the clubs will debate the possibility of training in the federal capital. On yesterday morning (19), Flamengo, without warning, resumed training at Ninho do Urubu. The club has done a new round of testing with the players and understands to be ready. Asked about their presidents' trip to Brasília, the two clubs said they did not know the agenda.

In late April, the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília was offered to clubs in the state of Rio de Janeiro to continue the Carioca Championship. This Tuesday’s meeting aimed to discuss the proposal, raising the chance that teams could use the arena in the country’s capital to conduct training for the duration of the pandemic and isolation rules in Rio. Also on Tuesday, the mayor of the carioca capital, Marcelo Crivella, said that the return of activities is not yet authorized.

At the meeting, President Jair Bolsonaro was presented with one of the jerseys that are part of Flamengo's new uniforms. Considering the possible reaction of the players, should the temporary change happen, the “rubro-negro” team is considering taking the athletes' families to Brasília, to accompany them during the training period in the country's capital. Today, Wednesday (20), another meeting will return to address the issue.
