In interview to Bruno Omori

CNN Brasil program places casinos legalization as a new post-pandemic resource

CNN Brasil's Live program on Monday promoted a debate on the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the tourism sector. Among those interviewed was Bruno Omori, president of the Institute for Development, Tourism, Culture, Sports and the Environment (IDT-CEMA), who presented the legalization of casinos as an option to revive the sector after the crisis, generating jobs and revenues.

In addition to Omori, there were also part of the debate -conducted by presenters Mari Palma and Felipe Siane- specialists Fabio Rossi, managing partner of the Flytour group and Dyogo Oliveira, president of the National Association of Airport Management Companies (Aneaa).

Talking to GMB, Bruno Omori -president of IDT-CEMA-, said how the topic came up during the debate. “We started by talking about the closing of the Brazilian entry in the USA and of Americans in Brazil and the impacts of that on the economy. And when it came to solutions to minimize the problem, we created demand. In this sense, I talked about sectors that could bring investments to Brazil, among them, the most important would be the release of casinos and gaming because it could bring an entry of US$ 70 billion including casinos in hotels, integrated resorts and online gambling; generating taxes, billing and jobs post the COVID crisis.”

The matter was well received by the debaters who agreed with Omori's views in a harmonious way, however, without going deeper into the issue of the legalization of casinos and gambling.

Omori stressed the importance of taking the topic on a relevant media such as CNN Brasil. "It is a network with national reach, a qualified audience and from all sectors."

In addition to the casinos, businessmen stated that the American measures will bring a drop in tourism revenue, which was R$ 6 billion (US$1.1b), currently is only R$ 1.8 billion (US$330m) and that for sectors such as air transport, new coronavirus is the biggest crisis ever faced.

The full debate on the impacts of coronavirus and the US government's restrictive measures on tourism that project “the future will less travels” is available on the CNN Brasil website.
