After the meeting held this week at the Ministry of Labor with operator Codere and representatives of the associations and unions of the turf sector, the General Director of State’s Casinos of Uruguay Gustavo Anselmi confirmed that turf will be the first sport that will return to activity in the country.
"The protocol was signed and the registration date was set to be Monday, May 11, to run on the 16th and 17th in Maroñas, and on the 18th at the Las Piedras racecourse," Anselmi confirmed.
"Basically this protocol refers to all health measures, which will be all the ones needed, mainly to the coronavirus tests that will be applied to all jockeys and to a large part of the equestrian actors," explained the director of Casinos.
"This sanitary scheme also establishes the circuit that horse keepers must use with the animals, from the moment they enter until they leave the racetrack," he added.
In principle, a maximum of 10 races will be held with a 35-minute interval without the presence of the public and with bets that will be made by phone or online.
