Corinthians may have a new sportsbook as a sponsor

After MarjoSports left as a sponsor of the jersey sleeve due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus, Corinthians would already have in mind a new partnership with another company of the sports betting sector. The information is from Yahoo Esportes journalist Jorge Nicola, who stated that the name of this new operator has not yet been revealed, but that the value of the contract would practically double the old agreement.

The marketing department of Corinthians acted quickly and is preparing for the next few days the announcement of two new sponsors for the team’s jersey, in place of companies that suspended contracts during the Coronavirus pandemic. The new partners, however, still have their names kept confidential, but will yield more than the previous ones.

Yahoo Esportes journalist Jorge Nicola said that the recently closed deals will be worth, according to Corinthians, approximately R$ 8 million (US$1.6m) per season more than the old one.

One of the companies that left the ‘Timão’ is MarjoSports, which was displayed at the team’s jersey sleeve, but the contract has been terminated. A foreign sports betting company, which will practically double its investment in Corinthians, would be the substitute. It is worth remembering that MarjoSports paid about R$ 5 million (US$1m).

The other change, according to the journalist's Corinthians source, will be on the back of the jersey, which was occupied since January 2019 by Joli. The construction material company asked ‘Timão’ to suspend the contract until the ball rolls again, stopping payments. The annual agreement is estimated at R$ 4 million (US$810,000).

Corinthians guarantees to be closing the last details of the contract with another sponsor willing to pay close to R$ 8 million (US$1.6m) per season. Joli has not yet been informed by the club about the occupation of the space by another company.

It is worth remembering that Corinthians, thanks to all these agreements, secured R$ 71 million (US$14.4m) in sponsorships in 2019, being the third club that most earned in Brazil.
