WSOP 2020 goes online due to the pandemic

With the flagship World Series of Poker (WSOP) postponed in Las Vegas due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers announced “WSOP Online”, an online poker festival spanning two months. Set to be one of the largest online tournament series of all time, it will offer massive prize pools, unprecedented media coverage, and the chance to win gold bracelet glory across two distinct gaming platforms, WSOP.com and GGPoker.

Kicking off Wednesday, July 1, the “WSOP Online” tournament’s North American network will schedule one bracelet event a day, throughout the month of July. WSOP.com allows play from customers geo-located in Nevada and New Jersey.

On Sunday, July 19, official “WSOP Online” bracelet tournaments will commence on the GGPoker Network, one of the biggest and fastest-growing online poker providers in the world. The international series will run through September 6 and mark the first time that players outside the U.S. have been able to compete for an official WSOP bracelet online.

GGPoker plans to unveil its bracelet schedule on a rolling basis and will have a broad range of buy-ins and game formats. GGPoker boasts next-generation smart software and a multitude of innovative features, which will be on display during the online series.

WSOP.com will celebrate the tournament with a number of special promotions and incentives. Satellites to WSOP Bracelet events start as low as US$1. WSOP will also offer US$100,000 of added prize money eligible to the top performers across all eligible online bracelet events in July.

“It wouldn’t be Summer without WSOP” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. “While we are thrilled to be reopening our venues and optimistic about future offline events, we couldn’t be more excited about deepening our relationship with GGPoker and watching some history unfold online this summer.”

“With over US$100m in guarantees during the WSOPC Super Series in May and more than US$134m in awarded prizes, it’s clear that GGPoker and the WSOP make a good pair,” said Steve Preiss, Head of Poker Operations for GGPoker. “We’re excited to create bracelet events that the worldwide poker community will embrace, as well as innovative programming with PokerGo.”
