Conversations with Rafinha and Gomes

Denilson Show stands out with interview lives in partnership with Sportsbet.io

Brazilian football star Denilson has been excelling in the role of “interviewer” and managing to get interesting revelations from athletes. The first guests were Rafinha, from Flamengo, and goalkeeper Gomes, from Watford (UK), who chatted with him about their football stories. The lives were broadcast on Denilson's Instagram in partnership with Sportsbet.io, the bookmaker of which the player is an ambassador in Brazil.

The pandemic situation around the world has created a different environment in various parts of the globe. In Brazil, the phenomenon of lives took over social networks like Instagram, YouTube and Twitch. Music, debates, meetings and even parties started to happen live, respecting the recommendations of social isolation. And in the world of football it was no different. Lives have also been used by players and former players to get a little closer to fans, even if in a digital way.

An example, which has been working very well with fans, are the lives that former player Denilson has been doing on his Instagram as an ambassador for Sportsbet.io in Brazil. The previous week, he chatted for more than an hour with Flamengo's Rafinha. And this Tuesday (9), the guest was goalkeeper Gomes, a former Cruzeiro player who was part of the national team in the World Cup for Brazil in 2010. Currently at Watford, in England, the 39-year-old player talked beyond the predicted 60 minutes of the meeting.

Produced with great humor - a personal characteristic of Denílson - the highlight of the conversations are the moments when players reveal details of their careers that are not normally spoken in public or to journalists. The proximity of the relationship between player and ex-player allows for a connection, just like in the football field itself, and athletes are clearly more comfortable talking about curious cases, challenges and even bad moments that they faced during their career.

With Gomes, for example, in a question that wasn't even scripted, Denilson unpretentiously touched on the family issue and the Watford goalkeeper ended up revealing that he almost lost his marriage and that now they are reconciling and living an important moment in life: “I did non value what I had inside my house, I slipped. Football brings good things, but it also takes you on paths that you will get lost. But I fought for my family and thank God, three months ago, it was restored,” confessed the experienced goalkeeper.

In addition, Gomes also talked about his beginningsin football, the promise of bauying a house to his mother, how he became a regular goalkeeper in the youth teams and even the scolding that coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo received when he was playing for Cruzeiro in 2002 and 2003. “I remember a time when I played with the Under-23 national team in the Gold Cup and when I returned to Cruzeiro, in a pre-season period in Foz do Iguaçu, I was giving a lot of interviews, but Vanderlei almost made me cry. He called me in the corner and said: ‘What are you thinking? Do you think you won something?’. At that time, I complained to Flávio Tênius, our goalkeeper coach, and he calmed me down, but then I realized that he was right in certain situations. He managed to put together that squad and we ended up winning the Triple Crown that year. And it was good for everyone who was in that team,” he said.

In the previous week, the same Denílson talked to Rafinha, from Flamengo, who has also been part of the national Brazilian team and idol in Bayern Munich, his last club in Europe. But before shining on the Bavarian lawns, the player had a short period in Italy's Genoa.
