Jockey Club postpones GP Brazil Festival until end of September

The board of directors of the Jockey Club Brasileiro moved to September 26, 27 and 28 the week of the Brazilian Grand Prix, which was previously scheduled for August 2. The measure met the expectations of the City of Rio de Janeiro, whose sixth stage of easing the economy is scheduled for the second half of August. The idea is that the GP Brazil Festival takes place in a normal way, with the usual audience and not behind closed doors.

The 4 Group 1 races were confirmed: on Saturday the Major Suckow GP and the Roberto and Nelson Grimaldi Seabra GP; For Sunday is scheduled the President of the Republic GP and the Brazil GP.

In addition to the four main races, five more events will take place on the classic calendar.

The Jockey Club Brasileiro Board of Directors issued the following statement:

In view of the current situation of the preventive actions related to COVID-19 and due to the current stage of the easing measures informed by the City of Rio de Janeiro, which does not yet allow us to reopen the Hipódromo da Gávea for the originally scheduled dates in order to organize the Grand Prix Brazil Festival, the Board of Directors of the Jockey Club Brasileiro decides:

(1) Postponing the realization of the GP Brazil Festival, until September 26, 27 and 28, 2020;

(2) As a consequence, change the dates of some events in the classic program, including the preparations for the Festival do GP Brazil, the subject of the Resolution of May 11, 2020.
