Curitiba’s Batel Poker Clube closes permanently due to COVID-19 pandemic

This Monday (1) became a sad day for poker in Brazilian cities of Paraná and Curitiba. After three years in business, Batel Poker Clube (BPC) announced its definitive closure because of the losses generated by the pandemic. The club, which had been temporarily closed for about two months, continues with its online games at the PPpoker application. However, the loss for those who like live playing is unfortunately irreparable.

Batel Poker Club was an environment for entertainment, leisure and practice of the sport that gains the most supporters day after day, poker, considered one of the most challenging and demanding Mind Sports today.

The club was linked to the Batel Lounge, also offering a wide variety in gastronomy with its contemporary restaurants, Japanese cuisine, deck bar and a self-service tavern.

Curitiba, which stands out in Brazil with successful players, has already had five poker houses operating at the same time. With the closure of the BPC, there is only one place to play in the city, the H2 Club Curitiba, which remains temporarily closed because of the pandemic.

Not to mention, and that is the most important of all, about 50 direct jobs and so many indirect ones that were lost. There are many affected people and families who will now need to find other ways to survive.
