Coritiba may lose its main sponsor in the coming days. MarjoSports broke a contract with Corinthians and should also terminate with Coxa and Goiás soon, according to information released by journalist Jorge Nicola on Youtube.
The company's main source of revenue is online betting. With the stoppage of competitions due to the coronavirus, it has been facing financial difficulties.
MarjoSports was a secondary sponsor of Corinthians (the brand was displayed on the jersey sleeves) and paid R$ 6 million (US$190k) annually to the São Paulo club. In the case of Coritiba, the company occupies the main space of the jersey and has the status of “master sponsor”. “Coritiba does not earn these R$ 6 million. The value is much lower, but it helps in the daily life of the club,” informed Jorge Nicola, who is also a commentator for ESPN.
The company had been with Corinthians since April 2019 and with Coritiba since November 2019, turning its master sponsor in January 2020.
According to Jorge Nicola, Corinthians will not seek a termination fine in court.
Coritiba has not yet provided information about the sponsor's situation.
