“The measure is necessary for the health and safety of all our players and employees at the moment. PokerStars, together with BSOP, will continue to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and local authorities,” commented the organizers.
During the coronavirus pandemic, fans of the largest poker circuit in Latin America were able to compete for titles at BSOP Online. There were 11 tournaments, which distributed almost US$ 1.5 million at PokerStars tables, well above the guaranteed US$ 605,000. Russian Alexandr Sheshukov won the Main Event, earning more than US$ 75,000.
In addition to the cancellation of BSOP Winter Millions in March, Pokerstar had already canceled two other major tournaments: BSOP São Paulo, marked on March 19 and 24 at the WTC Sheraton; and the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo to be held between April 23 and May 2.
Due to the cancellation of the São Paulo stage, the BSOP management made a donation to the freelance workers who would work at the event. More than 140 people received R$ 500 each, including dealers, cashiers, producers, etc.
