Cruzeiro fans campaign for Betway bookmakers to sponsor the club

A curious move drew attention to the Trending Topics in Brazil this Monday. With #betwaypatrocinaocruzeiro, the club fans managed to establish the subject as one of the most talked about in the country. The theme, according to messages exchanged by ‘cruzeirenses’ on social networks, came up with the urgency of the club to have sponsors and financial partners for the rest of the season, thus honoring the most varied - and urgent - pending issues it has, such as athletes salaries.


Cruzeiro is in a very serious financial situation. In addition to the relegation, the club will start Serie B with three points less, precisely for debts that were taken to FIFA. This, combined with the lack of sponsorship, made part of the crowd take the first initiative in the search for sponsorship, for a popular appeal.

The chosen one was the online sports betting company Betway, which sponsors, in Brazil, eSports teams, and in the football field, among others, West Ham, from the Premier League. With the hashtag "#BetwayPatrocinaOCruzeiro", fans on duty reached more than six thousand tweets.

The story began when the company's website posted a photo on its Twitter with a plaque, asking if followers knew where the photo was taken. From there, fans started to upload the hashtag, with the intention that Betway would notice the appeal and start negotiations.

The platform has accumulated 13 years of experience in the international betting market and has established itself as one of the most famous internationally. There are more than 2 million registered users.

There are fans who are already dreaming of the company's help in hiring Argentine Lucas Romero. Independiente, the club that owns his pass, would accept to open negotiations for a proposal between US$ 3 million to US$ 3.5 million.

The ‘celestial’ fan promises in the messages on Twitter not to stop there, and will help the club to seek other partners. In a live last Thursday, President Sérgio Rodrigues himself supported the requests for sponsorship when he asked for the tag #patrocinaocruzeiroromeuzema, in reference to the ventures of the governor of the state of Minas Gerais.
