“Maceió needs to truly become our Miami. Maceió will become a construction site, it is our sleeping Miami. It has one of the greatest tourist and cultural potentials in the world, in addition to really working people,” says Flávio Moreno.
With the crisis generated by the coronavirus, the need for economic recovery after the control of the pandemic became a reason to defend the reactivation of casinos in Brazil.
Casinos once existed in the country. The prohibition was established under the old-fashioned decree-law 9 215, of April 30, 1946. Meanwhile, in Uruguay, Las Vegas, USA, Caribbean, Hong Kong, Europe and all continents are allowed, generating jobs, investments and income.
Flávio Moreno, Federal Police, who was the former senatorial candidate, coordinator and facilitator of Bolsonaro’s campaign in the State, has already forwarded the request to President Jair Bolsonaro and also to the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio (PSL), to bring casino-resorts to Maceió, in addition to the creation of a free tourism zone.
The potential for jobs to be created in the project is around 100 thousand and in the installation of more than 100 large business, hotel and real estate projects not only in Maceió, but throughout Alagoas.
The Minister of Tourism is enthusiastic about the proposal and believes that the resumption of casinos can strengthen tourism, one of the segments most impacted by social distance.
Potential of casinos in Brazil
According to the Minister of Tourism, the installation of establishments in resorts, which would also provide other services, may yield investments of US$ 40 billion "just for grants, for immediate investments with this agenda."
The bill is now ready to be evaluated at the Chamber of Deputies, so that Maceió may have its first resort casino.
The project presented by Flávio Moreno to President Bolsonaro also has the recovery of Avenida beach and Maceió shore, regions compared to Miami, Copacabana and the Caribbean, in a great effort concentrated on basic sanitation, clean-up and recovery of neighborhoods in the region to install the hotel, nautical and condominium complex, including the relocation of Braskem to the non-urban area of Alagoas, in the industrial complex in Marechal Deodoro.
The appreciation of the neighborhoods and the interest in large investments in the region will be immediate, it already exists. The sanitation regulatory framework alone foresees investments of R$ 700 billion.
