Pedro Calhman de Miranda to be new secretary for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery

It was published yesterday (20) in the Official Gazette (DOU) the appointment of Pedro Calhman de Miranda as the new secretary for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (Secap) of Brazil’s Ministry of Economy. A career servant at the Central Bank, Calhman de Miranda will occupy a position that is vacant since March after Alexandre Manoel left. Under his area, he will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the work of the BNDES in the regulation of sports betting.

Miranda was undersecretary for Microeconomic Policy and Infrastructure Financing at the Economic Policy Secretariat (SPE) of the Ministry of Economy. Previously, he was the undersecretary of the Secretariat for Fiscal Monitoring, Energy and Lottery (Sefel) of the former Ministry of Finance, where he worked on the energy and infrastructure financing agendas.

According to the folder, the secretary studied economics at the University of Brasilia, PUC-Rio and Stanford. He is a career servant of the Central Bank and went to the Ministry of Finance in 2016.

The position was being held on an interim basis by Nelson Leitão, Secap's Subsidy for Subsidy Assessment of the Union. The previous secretary, Alexandre Manoel, left the post in March.
