Caixa Lottery revenues fall 8.2% in first half of 2020

CAIXA announced its consolidated result for the second quarter of (2Q20). The Lotteries division raised R$ 7.4 billion (US$1.32b) in the first half of 2020, 8.2% less than that recorded in the same period last year. In addition, with the payment of R$ 173.4 billion (US$31b), and more than 66.9 million benefited Brazilians, R$246.6 million (US$44.1m) were transferred to Emergency Aid until August 25th.

Among the values obtained by CAIXA Lotteries in the period, approximately R$ 2.8 billion (US$501m) were transferred to the Federal Government's social programs in the areas of social security, sports, culture, public security, education and health, corresponding to a transfer of 37, 3% of the total collected.

Emergency Aid is the largest income transfer action ever undertaken in Brazil and also accumulates the following numbers:

- 109.0 million registrations processed

- 1.7 billion visits to the Emergency Aid website

- 457.8 million calls at the exclusive call center 111

- 114.7 million downloads of the Emergency Aid application

- 212.3 million downloads of the CAIXA Tem application

The CAIXA Tem app enabled the largest movement for social, digital and financial inclusion in Brazil with the potential to reach 131.7 million free digital social savings accounts, and by August 24, 91.7 million have already been opened.

With the potential to pay around R$ 302.9 billion (US$54.2b) in social benefits (Emergency Aid, FGTS Emergency Withdrawal, and “BEm”) for more than 131.7 million people, the app has the lowest data consumption in the market , focuses on the segments of basic income, social and individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) and can make payments, transfers and consultations on social benefits, among others.

Regarding the FGTS Emergency Withdrawal, the total public is 60 million people, with a value of R$37.8 billion (US$6.75b) in payments. Until August 24, R$18.3 billion (US$3.27b) had been paid to 23.8 million workers, based on MPV 946/20, which limited the amount to up to R$1,045 (US$187) per worker, considering the sum of the balances of all accounts active or inactive in FGTS.

Some of the highlights of the analyzed period were:

- Net income of R$ 2.6 billion (US$465m) in 2Q20, a reduction of 16.1% over 1Q20

- ROE reached 12.1%, with a reduction of 2.8 p.p. over 1Q20

- 40 million citizens were made bankable with the payment of benefits

- 36 million people who were not on government registrations were served

- 8 out of 10 adults are receiving some benefit from the Federal Government via CAIXA.
