New game

Super Sete should increase by US$180m Caixa Lotteries’ collection for social programs

Super Sete - a new lottery game et from Caixa Econômica Federal - will have its first draw held this Friday (2). The estimate is that the product represents an increase of close to R$1 billion (US$180m) per year in the collection, increasing the percentage of resources of the federal lotteries destined for social programs operated by the Brazil’s public bank. Currently, about 40% of the money collected from Caixa's lotteries goes to actions in the areas of education, health, social security, sports, culture, and public safety.

For the president of the National Federation of Caixa Personnel Associations (Fenae), Sérgio Takemoto, the launch of the product is welcome. “Almost half of the lottery revenue goes to social areas. With this new betting option, investments in these sectors are expected to increase,” he points out. But Takemoto warns: “We hope that the government's intention is really that. And not to make the Lotteries subsidiary more attractive for further privatization.”

The president of Fenae also notes that no private company would allocate half of the lottery proceeds to social programs. “As we cannot trust the good intention of this government with the population, we need to be aware,” says Sérgio Takemoto.

Super Sete was launched last Wednesday (23). The projection of an annual increase in revenue of R$1 billion (US$180m) is from the Ministry of Economy's Secretariat for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (Secap), which had already authorized this new type of bet in June. According to the secretariat, the growth in resources will be the result of the creation of Super Sete in addition to changes in Lotofácil, whose weekly draws went from three to six.

As highlighted by the president of Fenae, Caixa Lotteries are an important source of funds for the country. “In addition to fulfilling the gamblers dream, they finance national development,” reinforces Takemoto.

In 2019, the Lotteries raised R$16.7 billion (US$3bn). In the first quarter of this year, it was R$ 4 billion (US$718m). Of this total, approximately R$1.5 billion (US$270m) was transferred to social programs of the federal government in priority areas. In Fies (Student Financing) alone, R$148.2 million (US$26.6m) was invested, from January to May. Super Sete will have the same collection percentage as Mega-Sena, Quina, Lotomania, Duplo Sena, Lotofácil and Dia de Sorte. Of the total collected in each contest, 43.35% are for the payment of the prize and payment of the income tax that is levied on the prize. Another 37.52% is transferred to the social area and 19.13% is used to cover expenses and maintenance of services.

SUPER SETE - The new type of bet is part of the “numerical forecast” modality. Like the Mega Sena, for example, the bettor tries to predict which numbers will be drawn. According to Caixa management, the first draw of Super Sete, next October 2nd, will offer a prize that should reach R$1 million (US$180k).

Bets can be placed at lottery stores across the country. The Super Sete ticket has seven columns with ten numbers (from 0 to 9) in each. The bettor must choose at least one number in each of the seven columns and a maximum of three per column. Wins prizes who match three to seven columns, regardless the order.

Players will be able to redeem winning bets on the same day of the draw. They will be held at 3:00 pm, always on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
