Paulo Gerber, firm’s CEO

“For 2021 our expectations are to triple GamersCard’s customer base”

In an exclusive interview with GMB, GamersCard CEO Paulo Gerber comments on the company's excellent year of 2020 despite the health crisis caused by the pandemic, both from the business point of view and from the growth of its staff. For 2021, the forecast is to triple the customer base, create more benefits and an app for its payment card. Regarding gaming sector’s regulation, he says that 'it is important that it is modern, attractive to investors and that it protects players and the community as a whole.'

GMB - With what expectations does 2021 begin, after a year to forget?
Paulo Gerber
- For us, the year 2020 brought many challenges and learnings, and gave us the chance to be even closer to our customers. As we operate in a very relevant way in the online world, we cannot complain about the year in terms of business, despite all the suffering and concerns that this pandemic has caused everyone. Fortunately, we were able to provide very suitable conditions for our employees to work in a home office basis and we even grew the team: we doubled our staff this year!

And by 2021 our expectations are to triple GamersCard’s customer base (and we have already started the year with excellent numbers!). And to continue to make great strides in expanding the benefits and functionality of our products, so that our customers will increasingly appreciate the GamersCard and our Benefits Club, in addition to continuing to focus on making our service also more and more differentiated.

Is GamersCard better prepared than before to deal with outbreaks or the continuation of the pandemic? Will there be a change in strategy?
Like all companies, we also learn a lot from everything we experience because of the pandemic. Our company was born in an era where digitization was a reality. The pandemic accelerated some plans that were already on our radar, such as the adoption of our team's home office in a few days, as a hybrid model. Regarding our audience, they are already people who were more adapted to the digital world, so we don't feel so much impact in relation to the changes that the pandemic has brought.

The pandemic did not change our strategic planning, we continue to work at full speed to bring news to the market soon.

What projects / ideas is GamersCard working on to launch this year?
We have several projects underway in this year 2021, but we still cannot share all of them. The most recent and that I can already tell at this moment is that, soon, we will launch our own app. We are very excited about what we are developing and are confident that it will make our customers very satisfied and make many others join us. It will come out with news in terms of features and new partnerships, aiming to add value and further facilitate the day to day of our client.

Do you believe that the penetration of online gambling will increase while the land-based will maintain its limitations on public entry?
I still think it's early to assess this scenario, since the population's vaccination is approaching. We do not have a concrete vision of how this scenario will unfold throughout the year. We are prepared to meet all market demands, whether in the physical world or online. And we hope that everything will also return to normal in the face-to-face world. Our audience loves the live events and so do we!

Do you think that this year in Brazil there will be a definite takeoff towards a regulated gambling market? Will GamersCard’s presence / investment grow in the country throughout 2021?
We are in favor of regulating all gaming modalities and we are following the development of this theme. We believe that this could bring many benefits to the country, since it will certainly bring jobs, taxes, and security for all involved. It is very important that we have a modern and well-structured regulation that is both attractive to investors and that also adequately protects players and the community as a whole.

As for investments, we have a good growth perspective for this year, regardless of the appearance of new verticals. It is clear that the regulation will bring interesting business opportunities and we will be present and active in this scenario, also contributing to a promising, ethical market with excellent service provision.
