Loterj opens public hearing for bidding on new lottery modalities in Rio de Janeiro

The STF's decision to give Brazil’s states autonomy to operate lotteries guaranteed another step in expanding the market. The initiative is from Loterj, which will hold a public hearing on January 22, open to all interested parties, to guide procedures to continue the exploration of its instant lotteries and numerical prognosis. The objective is to provide access to all pertinent information about a new bidding process to be launched by the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery.

The Brazilian lottery market is going through a very agitated moment and it was to be expected, for the beginning of this year, the movements around new products based on the decision of the Federal Supreme Court that ended the Union monopoly for the exploration of lotteries.

The Official Gazette of the State of Rio de Janeiro published yesterday (7) the Call for Public Hearing No. 001/2021 stating that it will hold such a meeting on January 22, at 5 pm, at the entity's headquarters.

As published, Loterj “makes it known to anyone who may be interested that it will hold a Public Hearing, in order to guide the procedures to continue the exploration of INSTANT LOTTERIES AND NUMERIC PROGNOSIS games, within the scope of the State of Rio de Janeiro, listening guaranteeing the right, to the sector and possible interested parties, wide access and to all pertinent information.”

The Public Hearing, according to the Public Notice, guarantees that “Thus, all interested parties are duly summoned, to have access and right to all pertinent information, and to manifest themselves in public hearing, about the object to be auctioned by LOTERJ.”

It is a clear demonstration of Loterj's intention, as already expressed to GMB its president, Oswaldo Luiz Pacheco Ribeiro, to evaluate all possible operational models and “move forward with firm steps towards the future. News will come. All of them, certainly, for the benefit of the State of Rio de Janeiro," said Oswaldo Ribeiro.

Currently, Loterj has a contract in force with MCE and the public hearing will be held to deal with a new bid for the company not covered by the current contract. From what GMB has known, Loterj wants to hear from prospects interested in impressions about a possible new contract and business model that is attractive and advantageous for the company and private agents.
