Chilean casinos bounce back in first full month of activity since February 2020

Chile’s casino regulator, the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ) has reported US$16.0m in tax contributions from the sector in August, as they generated a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of US$49m in the month. The SCJ noted that industry revenue increased rapidly as 25 of Chile’s 26 casinos operated without interruption throughout August, for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

The only casino that remained shut was the Municipal Casino of Natales.

A total of US$7.3m of the contribution came from the casinos, which operate under Chile’s Law No. 19,995 of Casinos. VAT from gambling generated US$6.94m, while US$1.67m came from income tax.

The regional governments and municipalities of the casinos will the receive the necessary gambling tax payments in October.

The Sun Monticello casino made the largest contributions, paying US$967,252 in tax to its regional government and the same in municipal tax.

Enjoy Viña del Mar made a US$392,961 contribution to its regional government, with the same in municipal tax.

Meanwhile, Marina del Sol Talcahuano came in third with US$366,175 payments to both its regional government and municipal tax.
