Towards the Brazilian iGaming Summit

Marlon Tseng: "Pagsmile to speak at Bis on technology, knowledge and payment methods"

Payment methods in the gaming sector is one of the backbones of the segment and Pagsmile participation in the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) aims to show the democratization of consumer access to the desired product. “We bring the union of technology, market knowledge and payment methods as the theme of our exhibition at BiS,” explains Marlon Tseng, general manager of Pagsmile. “The gaming market has been growing nationally and worldwide. The interactions that used to be done face-to-face have been transferred to the digital environment and now tend to remain in this way,” he says.

GMB – Did the Brazilian market need to have a face-to-face event of this level?
Marlon Tseng -
Yes. Face-to-face events allow you to take numbers from the abstract and bring them to the visual. It is possible to see how great is the gaming market and how it moves the economy by mobilizing different companies from the most varied sectors. As much as the digital events also have an effect, the presence allows the visualization in the here and now of the greatness behind digital gaming, in addition to enabling better networking among participants and the discussion of relevant topics.

Can the strength of BiS and its dissemination in the media help to understand that this industry should be legalized for the benefit of the country?
The constant study and dialogue about the different market niches and the opportunities that the advancement of technology can bring for economic growth and development are always welcome, especially so that they are aligned with our country's legislation, following the global trend on the subject.

What topics will you cover or would like to develop on your participations at BiS?
We are a company active in the means of payments, connecting Brazilians to the best of products and services abroad. We seek to democratize the access of the final consumer to the desired product. In this way, we bring technology, market knowledge and payment methods together as the central theme of our exhibition. We are specialized in serving the gaming market.

How do you analyze Brazil's growth this year specifically in the gaming market segment where you work and specialize? What are your expectations for 2022?
The gaming market has been in a wide growth nationwide and worldwide. With the popularization of gaming and their rise to the mobile environment, we are experiencing a new boom in this market that, until then, has significantly followed technological innovations. With the pandemic, gaming took on a role almost as a new form of social networking. The interactions that used to be done in face-to-face, moved to the digital environment and now tend to remain in this way. For 2022, the expectation is for an increasingly consolidated market with possibilities to reach new horizons.

At what point do you see the local gaming market in general and its evolution in 2021 from a political and regulatory perspective?
There is still a lot of guesswork about the gaming market in Brazil, and in the regulatory field, we are dealing with extremely outdated legislation, which has not kept up with technological advances, with this huge disconnect between regulation and reality. However, we see a growing dialogue regarding the need to study and update the country's legislation on this topic. We have already advanced compared to previous years, but we still have a lot to conquer. Mainly with regard to professions related to the digital gaming market, especially electronic sports.

Were the results of your company's work this year as expected? Do you have plans in Brazil to grow and contribute more to the local market?
We have plans to expand our operations. We are already operating at LATAM level and always maintaining our quality and our differential, which is to provide localized payment methods according to the needs of local customers.

In the most recent discussions about gaming activity in Brazil, the main players believe that the country is closer than ever to regulation. Do you share the same opinion? Do you believe it is possible to approve all game verticals in Brazil during this next year?
We agree that in the last year, largely contributed by the increase in demand due to the consequences of the pandemic, progress was made in the acceptance of the Brazilian government and also of the Central Bank of Brazil on the need to update regulations in the sector, in order to follow the world trend and consumer demand in the area of online gaming. Thus, we believe that we are at a time when space has been opened up for these discussions, aiming at a new regulation on the subject.

All about the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS)

Due to the health crisis, several events, trade shows and congresses had to be postponed or even canceled throughout 2020 and 2021; however, with the advance of immunization across the country, things are slowly returning to normality. Thus, the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) will take place at Espaço Boulevard JK, in São Paulo, on December 1st and 2nd with the strategic partnership of Games Magazine Brasil, and will be attended by investors and entrepreneurs from diferente sectors such as sports betting, communication, affiliates, lotteries and regulators. For the first time, it will take place in a hybrid model, with real-time broadcasts and big screens spread throughout the conference space.

To ensure the safety of guests, event organizers will respect all recommended health safety protocols. With this, BiS will be the return point of in-person events for the gaming sector in Brazil and a great opportunity to connect entrepreneurs of the gaming market to the country's political personalities and actors involved in the regulation process. They will discuss and analyze what will be the next steps to pass legislation for the sector, and what are the trends for the development of this market in Brazil.
