Towards the Brazilian iGaming Summit

Peter Nolte: "The presence of Salta Technology at BIS closes an exceptional year for the company"

Peter Nolte, CEO of Salsa Technology, will participate in two important panels at the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS), when he will address the current scenario of gambling regulation in Brazil and solutions for the sector, debating challenges and perspectives for the future. “We are confident that the work being carried out by Secap is quite serious and that it will result, in 2022, in regulations that meet market demands,” he commented.

GMB - Did the Brazilian market need to have a face-to-face event of this level?
Peter Nolte -
Yes, it needs it, and we are very happy to participate in this event and meet in person our friends and partners in the sector.

Can the strength of BiS and its dissemination in the media help to understand that this industry should be legalized for the benefit of the country?
Disclosure is always important to reverse public opinion, which is heavily loaded with misconceptions about the sector, especially due to a religious bias. The work of specialized media such as GMB is essential to publicize this important economic sector, and it is increasingly urgent that this message reach the mass media, not least because they are the ones who have the power to transform public opinion and consequently influence legislators, since they must represent the interests of citizens.

What topics will you cover or would like to develop on your panels?
I will participate in two panels. In the first one, along with other participants, we are going to talk about other types of games and their role in the regulatory scenario in Brazil. The focus, since the end of 2018, has been on sports betting, and since the end of last year, also on state lotteries, after the STF decision that broke Caixa's monopoly. But the gaming market goes much further and we’ll talk about this. On the second day, I will moderate a panel with other solution providers for the sector and we will debate the challenges and perspectives for the coming years.

How do you analyze Brazil's growth this year specifically in the gaming market segment where you work and specialize? What are your expectations for 2022?
The unregulated law leaves the market quite confused. Everything is very subject to interpretations and technicalities and nobody wins with that. We should already have regulations for sports betting, but we are confident that the work being carried out by Secap is quite serious, technical and that it will result, in 2022, in regulations that meet market demands.

At what point do you see the local gaming market in general and its evolution in 2021 from a political and regulatory perspective?
The Brazilian political scene is always at the pace of elections, but with presidential elections next year, this gets even more fierce. Therefore, I believe that all the evolution that we had this year and that we will have in the next year will have to happen much more in the technical and regulatory aspect, than in the political itself.

Were the results of your company's work this year as expected? Do you have plans in Brazil to grow and contribute more to the local market?
This was an exceptional year for Salsa as we grew across the LatAm continent and expanded into Europe. We recently opened our offices in Malta, Spain and Ukraine. In Brazil, we are ready with our modular platform, back office, sports betting, means of payments and much more to be certified in accordance with the new regulations. As I've always said, we want good regulation and we want to be the preferred technology supplier for Brazilians.

In the most recent discussions about gaming activity in Brazil, the main players believe the country is closer than ever to regulation. Do you share the same opinion? Do you believe it is possible to approve all game verticals in Brazil during this next year?
As I mentioned before, I hope that sports betting will be regulated in 2022, not least because this is the maximum period established by the law enacted in December 2018. This would be an important step for Brazil. The regulatory framework that would regulate all sports was discussed again at a time when we were already convinced that we would follow one step at a time, first sports betting with a job well done, which can benefit the player, the country and the operator. I don't know if it's possible, even because of the political aspect I mentioned before, but we're still in the crowd. And more than that, we continue as we have been doing. We wait, but at the same time, we are preparing to act strongly in this future regulated market.

All about the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS)

Due to the health crisis, several events, trade shows and congresses had to be postponed or even canceled throughout 2020 and 2021; however, with the advance of immunization across the country, things are slowly returning to normality. Thus, the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) will take place at Espaço Boulevard JK, in São Paulo, on December 1st and 2nd with the strategic partnership of Games Magazine Brasil, and will be attended by investors and entrepreneurs from diferente sectors such as sports betting, communication, affiliates, lotteries and regulators. For the first time, it will take place in a hybrid model, with real-time broadcasts and big screens spread throughout the conference space.

To ensure the safety of guests, event organizers will respect all recommended health safety protocols. With this, BiS will be the return point of in-person events for the gaming sector in Brazil and a great opportunity to connect entrepreneurs of the gaming market to the country's political personalities and actors involved in the regulation process. They will discuss and analyze what will be the next steps to pass legislation for the sector, and what are the trends for the development of this market in Brazil.
