How growing social network Clubhouse can help poker in Brazil

Those who follow the news and events on the internet certainly heard about the new social network that arrived making a huge noise in Brazil, the Clubhouse. The news is growing very quickly and leading a crowd in the country to open discussion groups ranging from the most serious subjects to super funny things. The app is already attracting the attention of even poker lovers, as it can be seen in this article.

Clubhouse is a social network that uses as a premise having users showing their real names, real photos, and a short description of what they do or the subjects they are interested in. These people communicate by audio in real time in discussion groups, formed by interests of the creators of the rooms or a list of generic subjects that they can choose from. The moderators in each room determine who can speak, and users can ask to talk in most groups.

A curiosity about the network, which for now is exclusive to users of the IOS system (of Apple devices), is that there are two ways to enter it: being invited by a user who is already in the application or registering and waiting for someone who is already approved to release the new user's entry.

One of the app's great attractions is the presence of several celebrities. The names range from mega entrepreneur Elon Musk to actress Tatá Werneck discussing and performing in the groups.

How can Clubhouse help poker?

Several important names in poker worldwide like Phil Galfond, Daniel Cates and Joey Ingram are already using the new social network. From Brazil there are also really key names such as André Akkari, Rafa Moraes, Ueltom Lima and Sérgio Prado.

Since communication on the network is done through audio discussion groups, the most natural thing is for players to come together to discuss hand situations, general strategies, and complementary issues to the game, such as mindset and self-control.

Player Breno Campelo, who plays cash games live in Las Vegas, bets that the tool is perfect for discussing spots where one player proposes a situation and dozens of other players can join in to discuss which action is most correct. In both poker and general affairs groups, Breno always answers very frankly questions and curiosities that users have about his life in the world capital of gaming.

Marcos Sketch, member of the 4Bet Poker Team and partypoker representative in Brazil, points out that some specific advantages of Clubhouse are spontaneity and informality for creating instant discussions, without much need for preparation and disclosure as happens, for example, for lives on other networks. Sketch also points to the possibility of unusual encounters between people inside and outside of poker, and even different groups within the sport who would not have the opportunity to chat on other networks, because of the existence of typical bubbles of interest, for example Youtube and Instagram.

4Bet itself hosted a meeting of its players on February 11, which Sketch called "an online happy hour" for the team's players. Several people from the industry and people interested in the discussion went through the meeting. The subjects went from the amount needed for the player's daily expenses in Las Vegas to the possibilities of different formats for the WSOP in 2021.

What about the future of Poker at Clubhouse?

The network is very new and even though the number of Brazilian users has increased a lot, the limitations (especially the exclusivity for IOS users) keep most players out of it.

As new users join and the networks of people connected by interest in poker increase, groups will certainly be created. Thus, conversations will become more interesting and the paths of sport in Brazil and worldwide will be discussed so that players are better informed about technical and practical issues. Clubhouse is also a great way to teach new players the way to get started with poker.

And for those who are looking for a background sound for the grind, Clubhouse can be alternated with Pokercast SuperPoker and the contents of the YouTube portal channel.
