Sebastian Salat, Zitro’s CEO

“A hybrid model that combine online and land-based can be a good option for operators”

Sebastian Salat, CEO of Zitro, took his executive experience of many years in the gaming industry to CGS Latam 2021. In the panel “Pandemic World - How Will the Gaming Industry Survive?”, he said that he remains concerned and “following closely the direction of vaccination worldwide, which is not happening as quickly as expected. The recovery of the world economy, and especially in our industry, should only start after September. And that has been punishing us a lot.”

On the panel, besides Sebastián Salat, CEO of Zitro, participated the Director of FBM, Renato Almeida; the Director of Big Bola Casinos, Emilio Quirós; the General Manager of Enjoy Viña del Mar, Fabián Giame; and Elizabeth Leiva, CEO of the CGS Group.

According to Salat, Zitro is also concerned “with our customers, who are the players, since they were very affected economically. The limitations imposed worldwide by the pandemic make this economic chain suffer a lot, since entertainment ended up being relegated to the background,” he said.

According to him, the online vertical, which had been growing and had a boom since last year, has helped the industry. "I think it is very important that land operators seek their licenses to serve the regulated markets so that the offer of this solution meets their own needs to improve profitability," he commented.

For Zitro’s CEO, "the online game sector is an additional tool for land-based operators, and some of them did not even imagine that such an offer could contribute to the success of their operations."

In his opinion, the traditional casino model takes into account offering a series of entertainment options, such as restaurants, shopping, concerts and gambling as an alternative to more leisure. "We hope that this model will recover its audience as quickly as possible and guarantee the possibility of socializing, since many people go to a casino for the beauty of its facilities and the wide variety of entertainment offers even without gambling."

Many smaller casinos, he said, are moving towards offering online operation as well, while some of them are merging or being bought by other corporations due to the economic crisis generated by the pandemic.

“In many cases, smaller operators are unable to invest in technological sophistication to offer other verticals, such as online gambling, but we are optimistic in saying that the hybrid model can be a good option for operators and we hope that the vaccination process will expand so that the public can return to the gaming rooms,” he concluded.
