A €5 million deal

LeoVegas acquires Expekt from Betclic Group

LeoVegas informed that it is acquiring Expekt Nordics, one of the most well-known sports betting brands in Sweden and the Nordic countries, and related assets from Betclic Group. The total purchase price is €5 million for all assets. The acquisition strengthens LeoVegas' brand portfolio with an established position in sports betting and expand the company's strategic growth opportunities in the segment.

Founded in 1999 and previously owned and operated by BetClic Group, Expekt is historically one of Northern Europe's largest and most well-known sportsbook brands. Once acquired, it will prove to be a monumental asset in expanding LeoVegas Group's position in the mobile sports betting environment. Plans to go live with operations are set for the 19th May, 2021.

Although Expekt is fundamentally a sports betting brand, it offers the Casino and Live Casino products all the same - in fact, it is also well recognized for Poker within Sweden.

On the 19th of May, Expekt will be relaunched in Sweden and Finland. This strategy to gather momentum prior to the UEFA Euro 2020 should be noted as an investment in the brand's capability for LeoVegas Group to regain a leading sports betting operator position in 2021.

For Sweden, it will be regulated under the SGA license and will implement a PnP procedure with BankID & Swish. Finland will operate under the MGA license and will also utilise PnP.

It must be noted that all Swedish player data from expekt.se will be migrated, however, players having an account on expekt.com, which includes Finnish customers, must re-register to open a new account. Players will then notice a smoother user experience with an innovative and captivating sports-first approach which is personalised to sports punters' interests.

"For those of us who grew up with online gambling in Sweden, Expekt is undeniably one of the pioneers in sports betting. I can remember back in the early 2000s when everyone played on Expekt. After a few years on the sidelines, we will now restore Expekt to its former glory as the leading sports betting brand," comments Gustaf Hagman, Group CEO LeoVegas.

"We are working resolutely to offer the ultimate mobile sports betting experience, which will entail a number of new innovations and new thinking with a starting point from what a mobile experience can entail for the big years of sport in 2021 and 2022. This is a milestone for LeoVegas and represents a broadening of our strategy. We look forward to Expekt once again becoming a leading sport brand in Sweden and the Nordic countries," Hagman added.
