Investigation requested due to possible match-fixing in Rio Grande do Norte tournament

The North Rio Grande do Sul Football Federation (FNF) announced it will investigate alleged irregularities in the results of matches in the Potiguar Championship. The entity forwarded to the Court of Sports Justice of the state a Fact Sheet in which it asks 'to ascertain and clarify the facts so that there is no doubt about the correction of clubs and teams on the field.' The FNF measure comes just one day after the match between Globo FC and Santa Cruz de Natal.

In a note, the FNF also says that "in confirmed cases, the Court strictly punishes those involved." All clubs participating in the elite of the state’s championship were informed of this decision.

The federation considered "news and information circulating in the sports press and social networks" about suspected match-fixing. The FNF measure comes just one day after the match between Globo FC and Santa Cruz de Natal.

On the occasion, there was direct interference from Globo FC's honorary president, Marconi Barretto, in the lineup of two players - defenders Bruno Costa and Helber -, going over the formation guided by coach Hugo Chacon.

After the defeat by Santa, there was great confusion in the dressing room of Barretão, in Ceará-Mirim, in which the other players revolted with the president and called him a "clown". The two suspected defenders were reportedly dismissed on Monday.

Also on Monday, in the goalless draw between Força and Luz and Assu, 19 corners were recorded, curiously, only in the first half. Some moves were bizarre and betting sites removed the possibility to choose the number of corners in this game.

Recently, the president of Potiguar de Mossoró, Djalma Freire Júnior, spoke in an interview that he received the club with this "reputation" of involvement in manipulating results "rooted", stating that the old management, led by Benjamim Machado, left this "negative legacy” in the club.

Goalkeeper Luiz Felipe left the Potiguar Championship after the game with Globo FC on the 13th. For having committed failures, he was accused by fans of being involved in a possible manipulation case, which he denied. "I was not aware that the club, in the past management, was accused of match-fixing and that it received criticism from the fans," said Luiz Felipe.

In a social network, President José Vanildo pointed out that "the FNF repudiates any action that could harm the fairness of the Potiguar Championship or any other competition organized by it. We hope that the TJD can elucidate the facts and punish, if the irregularities are confirmed, the guilty in an exemplary way."
